Medical researchers use their scientific knowledge to help find out how to cure or treat illnesses to help others. Doing experiments and research takes a lot of money, and some people share money to help researchers do their work. Donating money to medical research is just one way of helping people in need.

Can you match the name of each children's charity to the cause it helps?
1. UNICEF A. Improves the health of babies by working to prevent birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
2. Locks of Love B. Provides a home away from home for families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals

3. St. Jude Children's
Research Hospital

C. Uses real, donated hair to make high-quality hairpieces for children who have suffered hair loss due to medical conditions
4. March of Dimes D. Provides children in over 150 countries with health care, clean water, nutrition, education, protection, emergency relief, and more
5. Ronald McDonald House Charities E. Treats children with serious illnesses such as cancer, AIDS, and sickle cell anemia

Even at your age, you can make a difference with your help. Maybe you're concerned about helping children or animals, providing people with food and clothes or even protecting the Earth. Once you find a cause you’re interested in, you can make a difference by sharing in different ways.

  1. Give part of your money to a good cause. Many adults do this often. You can set aside some money you've earned, or you can raise money with a fundraiser like a bake sale. Even a little bit of money can make a big difference to those who need it.
  2. Help people by sharing your time and energy. You could sort cans and boxes at a food bank. Or you could participate in a walk or run that helps raise money for a cause.
  3. Donate things you don't use anymore, like toys, clothes or books to organizations who collect these items for people in need.

When you share, you feel good, and other people will be thankful you've helped them.
